The College of Engineering and the Haas School of Business are launching a bold new venture to bring together two of the campus's strongest, most competitive undergraduate fields. Graduates of the Management, Entrepreneurship, & Technology Program (M.E.T.) will earn two undergraduate degrees—a B.S. in Business Administration and a B.S. in either Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) or Industrial Engineering and Operations Research (IEOR). The annual cohort of 50 undergraduate students will receive mentoring and coaching, robust internship opportunities, and an integrated curriculum designed for these future technology leaders. When fully implemented, M.E.T. will boast 200 undergraduate students who will pursue a rigorous academic and extra-curricular program. http://met.berkeley.edu/
The Program Specialist is responsible for assisting with a broad range of activities that support students, staff and faculty for the newly-created Management, Entrepreneurship, & Technology (M.E.T.) Program, a dual degree undergraduate program within the Haas School of Business and the College of Engineering at UC Berkeley. This includes academic advising, recruitment, marketing and admissions, financial aid, student orientation and events, career services, and related programs. The Program Assistant will also be responsible for all administrative duties of the department including accounting, and will assist the executive director as needed.
STUDENT SERVICES/ADVISING: -Academic Advising: Serve as resource and key contact for about 50 students (200 as the program grows). Provides first-level advising on academic and degree requirements and on accessing campus resources such as housing and financial aid. - Respond to phone/email/web inquiries from prospective students, students, faculty, staff, external partners and campus partners regarding program requirements and requests for assistance in a timely and professional manner. - Communicate regularly with students and faculty regarding program updates, events, and other matters. Maintain and update the website and calendar. - Assist with M.E.T. student board and other clubs/activities. Event Planning: Coordinate and assist with student events such as Orientation, Graduation and other social events. Manage logistics of external events such as Board meetings and career-related treks, recruiting events and interviews. Provide feedback and recommendations for improvement.
ADMISSIONS & RECRUITING: Assist executive director and staff in preparing admissions materials for review. Schedule candidate interviews and assist with recruiting events such as Cal Day, recruiting fairs, and campus visits. Oversee operations for external readers and interviewers. Assist with yield activities and scholarship process. Marketing: Assist with M.E.T.'s marketing efforts including the development of marketing collateral, the website, email communications, and social media. Administrative/Other: Serve as department's office manager. Manage facility and operational needs of the office (room scheduling, ordering supplies, maintaining the M.E.T. office and student lounge, etc.).Manage all accounting and budgeting duties for M.E.T. including staff expense reports. Assist executive director with travel logistics and other administrative duties, as needed. Hire and supervise student workers. Maintain student databases and assist with research, reporting and analyses.
SPECIAL PROJECTS/CAREER DEVELOPMENT: Assist staff with special projects as needed. Work on new initiatives/programs as assigned. Serve on departmental and campus-wide committees as appropriate. Participate in activities that enhance the campus community and/or larger community to further University service. Provide back up to other staff in M.E.T. as needed.
Basic knowledge and experience working with a diverse population, ideally students Basic knowledge of UC Berkeley and the ability to interpret policies and procedures to prospective applicants and the public. Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse populations from students and recruiters to the M.E.T. board of directors. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a high performance environment, take initiative, meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks. Demonstrated discretion and sensitivity dealing with urgent and confidential situations. Self-motivated and able to work independently as well as be an integral member of a team Solid analytical skills: ability to synthesize and analyze data and manage accounting duties High level of professionalism, service quality, judgment, and attention to detail. Comfort with technology and learning new systems. Proficiency in MS Office applications. Ability to work on evenings and weekends, occasionally. · Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training
Familiarity with MS Access and CRM systems Knowledge of HTML and web design/maintenance Experience in marketing and event planning Some knowledge of engineering and business degrees/careers Previous experience working in a higher education or professional business environment
Salary & Benefits
