Position Summary: The Senior Manager, Communications and Marketing works closely with Anixter Center leadership to create and execute communication and marketing strategies and initiatives across the organization. This position provides leadership and strategic guidance to the CEO, senior leadership team and Board of Directors. It also is responsible for working with all programs to assess and effectively address communication and marketing needs. This includes identifying, implementing and evaluating all essential print and electronic communications, branding initiatives and marketing strategies. The Senior Manager is also responsible for maintaining and extending Anixter Center’s brand standards, identity and voice.
Assume the lead role in managing the Anixter Center brand and adherence to established brand standards. Review all communication and marketing efforts to ensure there is a consistent brand image and voice across the organization and with all key stakeholders. In addition, expand brand recognition in general but with particular emphasis on current and potential donors and volunteers.
Develop and drive a strategic internal/external communication strategy that positively affects employees, donors, and clients with the understanding of engagement and commitment resulting in an even stronger investment.
Develop and recommend an annual plan for Communications and Marketing with a comprehensive strategy for Anixter Center’s programs, including those of Chicago Hearing Society.
Monitor, evaluate and implement/refine marketing and communication efforts to help support Anixter Center’s Departments and Divisions in achieving their strategic and operational goals. This includes developing metrics to track the effectiveness of communications and marketing initiatives.
Serve as communication lead for all events, in particular Anixter Center’s annual spring gala, including developing the invitation, signage, and other marketing pieces; writing PR materials; managing the creation of any AV materials; writing speeches; and developing the program agenda and talking points. On site stage management.
Monitor, support, and help evaluate the implementation of strategic direction for electronic communication, integrating traditional media with new media to effectively engage a following from the targeted constituencies. Host vehicles include e-newsletters, Twitter, Facebook, blogs, e-blasts e-mail, etc.
Provides strong, effective and highly visible leadership to the Marketing and Communications team. Ensures that all employees are stimulated, motivated and guided to contribute fully to our mission, vision, goals and objectives. Empowers employees to identify innovative approaches to enhance organizational performance.
Manage Anixter Center’s web presence and communication strategy. Develop web content that supports strategic and operational goals. Work with IT to ensure the functionality and ease of use of the Web site.
Serve as chief copywriter and/or editor for all internal and external communication materials, such as program level brochures, internal and external newsletters and letter writing campaigns. Work collaboratively with internal clients to implement these communications materials in support of agency objectives. Manage brand delivery and consistency.
In conjunction with the External Relations team, develop a comprehensive donor education and engagement strategy. Assess, plan and implement a communication campaign to help advance the External Relations Department’s priorities especially donor awareness.
Plan, write and supervise the production of the annual report.
Plan, develop and manage signage for Anixter Center and Chicago Hearing Society.
Serve as a press contact, including preparing staff for interviews as well as tracking and analyzing relevant media coverage. Contract and oversee the design, placement, and evaluation of all advertisements for Anixter Center and/or Chicago Hearing Society in newspapers, magazines, radio, television, the web, and outdoor media.
Manage relationships with outside vendors, including freelance talent, printers and PR and ad agency support.
Establish and maintain a network of cost-effective service and goods vendors to support marketing and communications activities in the agency. Works closely with outside vendors to ensure completion of projects.
Maintain and monitor all marketing project budgets, ensuring fiscal responsibility.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing, or related field.
At least five years of experience in communications, PR, marketing or related field.
Skilled project manager, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams at all levels.
Excellent time management skills able to organize and manage multiple priorities and complex deadlines.
Commitment to Anixter Center values.
Fundamental understanding of public relations, persuasion, image and consistency of message, experience overseeing social media preferred.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 2007 and relevant software programs.
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and relevant software programs.
Possess good initiative and can work independently as well as work closely with a team.
Strong customer orientation.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Previous experience working in a non-profit.
