Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Associate Director of Brand and Marketing and Editor, Rutgers.edu in the Department of University Communications & Marketing. Reporting to the Senior Director of University Brand and Marketing, and serving as the Senior Director's back-up as required, the incumbent in this position is responsible for the oversight, direction and content for the Rutgers.edu website, which is the central university-wide site and gateway to websites for Rutgers-New Brunswick, Rutgers-Camden, Rutgers-Newark, RBHS and Rutgers Health. Based on the needs of the university, industry best practices and analysis of visitor metrics, the Associate Director of Brand and Marketing and Editor, Rutgers.edu will drive the framework, development, content creation, and maintenance to deliver and effective, user-friendly website for Rutgers.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Develops the overall direction for the site and its content.
Ensures the quality of content is consistent with the department’s content standards.
Works collaboratively with colleagues from within and outside the department to develop and maintain Rutgers.edu and to ensure content is engaging and insightful.
Facilitates cross-collaboration with other units to ensure consistency of messaging, architecture and design.
Attends meetings on the Senior Director's behalf as necessary.
Assists with interpreting the university policies managed by the unit and providing guidance to Brand and Marketing staff in the absence of the Senior Director.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience
At least five (5) years of experience producing and/or managing content used for digital communications, whereof at least two (2) years of experience is in managing staff
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent writing skills – with a clear concise style for best application in digital communications.
Experience with navigation and content for responsive sites (for mobile users) and with requirements of accessibility compliance.
Must have several years of experience designing site navigations and creating content for the web.
Must be well versed in the integration of suitable graphic and video formats for use on the web.
Must have a user-experience mindset, and be able to think from a consumer's point of view.
Strong attention to detail is required in concert with the ability to identify and implement big-picture ideas.
Seven (7) years of experience producing and/or managing content used for digital communications with an additional 2–3 years of experience in managing staff
Process design and project management skills are strongly desired.
Ability to analyze data, identify trends and translate metrics into reports and executable product changes is strongly preferred.
Expert user of Microsoft Office software (Word and PowerPoint), Advanced knowledge of Google Analytics and other analytics platforms
Familiarity with Drupal or similar content management system.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Must be willing to use a personal vehicle for business purposes.
May be required work during early morning, evening, weekend and holiday hours.
Position may be required to work from home or other off-site locations.
