This position, selected by and reporting to the Missouri Tourism Commission, is responsible for leading marketing efforts that showcase Missouri’s prominence as a tourism destination.In addition to requiring marketing savvy, this position acts as Missouri Tourism’s cheerleader and champion, bringing guidance to the state’s local tourism efforts as well as leadership to the day to day marketing and administrative efforts of the Division.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Develop the tourism marketing vision and plan, building a roadmap for the achievement of the developed goals and establishing the objectives by which success will be measured.
Collaborate with the Department of Economic Development to position Missouri as an attractive destination for all.
Advocate and communicate on behalf of, and serve as a resource for, the Missouri tourism community.
Establish relationships with local and regional economic development leaders and boards, the tourism community and other related community leaders by serving on boards/committees, speaking at engagements and being a visible and trusted expert within the state.
Leverage relationships to educate communities and groups on the role of tourism and the position of Missouri as a destination.
Lead travel and tourism marketing activities, including Paid, Earned, Owned and Social channels that position the state as a prominent tourist destination.
Administrative and Operational Duties include:
Preparation and management of the Division’s annual budget
Management of the Division’s staff
Oversee all contracts, agreements and commitments
Prepare reports for and present to the Commission, and perform other tasks as assigned.
In depth knowledge of current branding, marketing and advertising practices
Understanding of the multi-faceted world of tourism marketing
Strong public speaking skills and experience a must!
Experience developing, leading and collaborating with goal-based teams
Deep strategic thinking and approaches to marketing
Understanding of policy development and the operations of government entities
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant area, such as Marketing
Six or more years of relevant experience in the tourism or hospitality industry, marketing or public relations.
Experience managing a large team of both direct and indirect reports.
