Position Summary The National Center for Interprofessional Practice and Education is seeking an innovative, strategic and collaborative individual to serve as manager of strategic communications and marketing. This individual will lead, coordinate and collaborate with multiple professionals, services and programs that interface with the general public, professional communities, university community, media, community partners and key stakeholders.
The purpose of this position is to continuously expand the awareness, understanding, relationships and support of the National Center among key constituents. The manager will lead by developing, implementing and updating a comprehensive and coordinated communications and marketing strategy to advance the National Center’s influence, external visibility, public positioning and overall reputation through integration of internal and external communications and partnerships. The successful candidate for this position will be skilled in writing, both synthesizing complex concepts into effective language for communications to strategic audiences/constituencies, and editorial writing for blogs/social media.
Reporting Structure This position is 12-months, 100%, annually renewable. This position will report to the deputy director/chief operating officer of the National Center. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The manager must have the ability to work non-traditional hours and travel, as needed.
Primary Responsibilities Under the direction of the deputy director, the communications manager will:
Provide leadership in the development of a strategic communications, marketing and outreach plan to advance the National Center’s mission while building and sustaining the center's reputation and brand among key audiences. (15%)
Deliver creative and effective communications campaigns across electronic, social and print platforms to ensure ongoing, positive visibility and position the National Center as an intellectual leader in the field. (40%)
Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop new and revise existing content for publication through National Center channels as well as other venues. (30%)
Advise the National Center leadership team about internal and external communications opportunities and issues. (10%)
Collaborate with University of Minnesota communications, partner communications offices and others as appropriate. (5%)
Accept related duties as assigned.
A bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public affairs, public relations, marketing, business, development or related field and a minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in the profession, marked by demonstrated record of systematic growth and accomplishment. Non-communications degreed individuals must have six years of progressive responsibility in communications.
The successful candidate will have experience planning, implementing and evaluating the success of comprehensive and strategic programs.
Candidates should have expertise building positive visibility through communication technology, including digital, print and social media, as well as demonstrated expertise in developing compelling messages for targeted audiences and demonstrated flexibility and ability to manage in ambiguous, complex environments.
The successful candidate will be skilled in writing, including synthesizing complex concepts into effective language for communications to strategic audiences/constituencies, editorial writing for blogs/social media and ghost writing.
Master's degree in strategic communications, public policy, public health or related field
Institutional advancement or public affairs experience in higher education or health care
Success developing proactive and collaborative solutions through online formats
