Advertised Summary Job Description: Reporting to the Vice President for Alumni Relations, this officer is responsible for overall strategy and development of branding, messaging and outreach to alumni through the Columbia Alumni Association. Additionally the incumbent will have a lead role with regard to online engagement with the Executive Director, Digital Marketing Initiatives for Alumni and Development. The incumbent will work closely with the Office of Alumni and Development's (OAD) Marketing and Communications unit and OAD senior leadership on campaign messaging and University-wide initiatives. The role involves not only leadership of the CAA brand, messaging, and outreach but also partnership and collaboration with Schools on their School-based outreach and in all areas of alumni-focused communications. These CAA marketing and outreach efforts will be coordinated with 1) the Digital Marketing Initiatives unit which is led by the Digital Marketing Initiatives Steering Group and 2) OAD Marketing and Communications.
The director's responsibilities include:
- Oversee all alumni-related communications/online engagement developed and distributed through the Columbia Alumni Association - Serve as lead for collaboration and partnerships with stakeholders in OAD, Schools and units, promoting and negotiating for a One Columbia approach - Develop and manage the Columbia Alumni Association brand and messaging across all communication platforms and initiatives - Serve as lead with CAA Marketing Committee and CAA Board ensuring volunteer efforts on marketing and communications initiatives are aligned with CAA Marketing unit and OAD Digital Marketing Initiatives - Plan and develop new print and online content and features of interest to alumni - Work with Executive Director, Digital Marketing Initiatives and Deputy VP of Strategic Communications on communications to alumni to ensure consistency of efforts and messaging across all Office of Alumni and Development outreach - In collaboration with Executive Director, Digital Marketing Initiatives develop metrics that reflect and guide use of University-wide giving and alumni relations media - Oversee content creation, organization, and maintenance for University-wide alumni relations communications - Execute surveys of alumni and reporting on their results - Provide "best practice" models, training, and support for staff members who promote and use the CAA brand to engage alumni - Provide performance evaluations, goal setting, coaching and career guidance relative to three direct reports, three matrix-organized staff, as well as providing guidance and feedback on other collaborating employees
General Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 5-7 years related experience.
Additional Specific Minimum Qualifications: Must have strong project management skills. Extensive technical skills and mastery of internet tools and programs required. Must have strong writing and editing skills. Must be creative and have a keen eye for detail and innovative style. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills required. The incumbent must be able to work confidently and comfortably in a collaborative manner across various units within the University. Demonstrated ability to set priorities and to work with diplomacy and discretion in a high pressure environment required. Must possess the ability to provide constructive feedback to staff as well as provide guidance and motivate others to meet and exceed unit goals and deadlines.
