This position is part of a team responsible for the design and implementation of communications for Student Affairs’ initiatives that serve the entire UC Berkeley campus. This team works collaboratively with central campus offices (Public Affairs, University Relations), respective functional owners called “clients” from a variety of departments (Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Dean of Students, Residential and Student Service Programs including house and dining and hospitality), and partner offices (academic units, Administration and Finance) to successfully launch and sustain Student Affairs communications initiatives.

This position is part of a team responsible for the design and implementation of communications for Student Affairs’ initiatives that serve the entire UC Berkeley campus. This team works collaboratively with central campus offices (e.g. Public Affairs, University Relations), respective partners from a variety of departments (such as Undergraduate Admissions, Financial Aid, Registrar, Dean of Students, New Student Orientation, Residential and Student Service Programs including house and dining and hospitality, and others), and cross-campus partners (such as academic units, Administration and Finance) to successfully launch and sustain Student Affairs communications initiatives. The Marketing Communications Manager will serve as a manager for several departments within Student Affairs, and is responsible for meeting with department heads, and developing, implementing or executing comprehensive, multidisciplinary communications programs involving work in multiple communications disciplines including content creation, design, digital work, social media, and more. This position does not directly supervise a team but does delegate work to a creative team. •Develop and manage complex comprehensive communications campaigns that can include written and visual content, social media, website creation and design, print collateral creation and branding for departments within Student Affairs. •Serve as an advisor to partners on all aspects of effective communications involving a variety of disciplines such as writing, editing, visual and electronic communications, web programming, and administrative support. •Collaborate with creative team members including writers, designers, and social media experts to brainstorm creative solutions to communications needs. •Manage production and output and ensures standards are met, continual improvement is achieved; ensures that high quality work is completed within budget and time constraints. •Recommend changes and improvements to communications programs and strategies. •Ensures integration of various communications disciplines to promote more impactful campaigns. •Provide comprehensive communications solutions to problems, complaints, issues or concerns from constituencies. •Research, analyze, monitor, and evaluate marketing efforts for effectiveness, modifying campaigns when needed and reporting results to appropriate higher levels of administration, partners, and team members. •Manage communications resources to benefit the larger SA Comms team. •Work with other unit professionals, to develop appropriate policies and procedures for assigned duties and responsibilities. •Provide advice and counsel to departmental administration on all aspects of communications, including strategic planning, effective messaging, and problem resolution. •Produce a variety of communication pieces including written, web, social, and graphic design. •Assign tasks, collaborates with, and oversees the work of members of the Student Affairs creative team, working with them to maintain quality and consistency for all communications and ensure deadlines are met. •Work closely with writing, design, and web programming staff to create or assist in the development of print and electronic marketing and promotional materials including brochures, poster, flyers, web pages, email campaigns and more. •Work with career and student staff to select visual concepts, page layouts, and artwork. •Create production schedules and manages all timelines, following up with partners as needed. •Lead, mentors, and monitors student staff to ensure compliance with performance standards. •Work with departmental administration (unit heads for areas like Financial Aid or Cal Dining) and/or SA Comms leadership to create, develop, and implement long and short-term strategic communications plans.•Solid communications experience in highly complex organizations. •Demonstrated experience managing cross-functional projects and/or teams. •Demonstrated advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications including strategic and campaign planning, measurement, audience analysis, and tactical implementation involving various technical aspects and requirements, and potential applications. •Knowledge and expertise of the most appropriate and effective communications strategies and tactics in a variety of settings. •Solid skills to create, develop and implement comprehensive long and short term strategic communications plans. •Advanced skills to advise and consult clients on all aspects of communications, ranging from developing effective communication strategies to appropriately responding to inquiries regarding sensitive or complex issues or information. •Excellent written, verbal, presentation, interpersonal communications, active listening and political acumen skills. Ability to simultaneously serve as advocate for client’s needs and capacity of the creative team. Demonstrated ability to persuade clients and/or executives. •Excellent analytical, critical thinking, project management, and problem recognition, avoidance, and resolution skills.
